Time Inc.

Los Angeles, California

30,000 SF

The redesign of Time Inc.’s (now Meredith Corp.) West Los Angeles office was a tricky maneuvering task, to say the least. The space hadn’t been substantially renovated in the 23 years since they had originally moved in, and they intended to stay in the office during construction! To accomplish this, construction was divided into two phases (one phase per floor), beginning with the upper 18th floor penthouse, where the new lobby would be relocated from the lower 17th floor to ensure there was always a functional reception area throughout both construction phases.

 Before Photos

The original space was very corporate and dated. Employees who didn’t have private offices had zero access to natural daylight and views, and they were siloed by tall pony walls file cabinets. Access to two outdoor patio spaces had been blocked off by private offices and locked for over 20 years; most employees had no idea patio spaces existed!

Design Concept

Three palette options were originally presented, and the Time Inc. team initially leaned towards the Hollywood Hills palette, though upon further discussion they realized there were elements of all three palettes that they loved, so we used the Hollywood Hills palette as a base and pulled in some of the finishes they loved from the other palettes. It became something very lovely and organic and we were all very pleased with the final palette.
